You can call Penners smug (I wouldn't agree he is) but at least he doesn't cost me bundles of cash, while sitting on his arse all day, firing out gormless sprogs like a t-shirt canon.

Penners....so its always the womans fault, no matter that it takes two to tango and men do have a legal and moral responsibility to pay for the children they help to produce. That wouldn't suit your mysoginist, anti-poor, judgemental narrative though would it,

You said yourself that you do not have conclusive proof of the written garbage you are producing here... Its all look at me I am perfect and everyone should be like me. Not sure that proves anything apart from you being a bit smug.

Re: Duncan Smith quits government over disabled benefit cuts
There has been some form of building houses at government level pre-1930's apparently. Obviously controlled at local level.
I don't see why that should not continue even if its via housing associations, especially when it is obvious that private rents cost too much and the housing benefit bill is ridiculously high.

"Wiltell...I am not saying we should borrow it all in one go...... this government and the last in fact probably most since the sixties have not done enough.."

I just don't understand this bullshit about building houses Debs. Governments are not there to build houses for people. Businesses do that and as long as there are enough customers to buy or rent, then they will get built.

Are you saying that you expect the government to build houses?

"the schools budget doubled under Labour. Did our children double their abilities? No"

That is astonishingly stupid.

What if there were more students?

What if a lot more students didn't have English as their first language?

What of inflation?

What about the cost and impact of academies in that period?

Hermit Road 6:01 Tue Mar 22

How do those tables work 8, and why did we 'go down' in them?

When you're spending over a trillion quid a year you're going to get a lots of snouts in the trough. From pharmacuticle companies to arms manufacturers. From politicians to the disabled. From farmers to software companies. They all want as much of the action as possible.
The answer would be to have a much smaller budget.

You make many good points. Spending extra money is not always the answer. Part of the fuss over disability welfare6is IDS made reforms which ended up costing more. The current government has over seen an expansion in welfare costs for the disabled but is called heartless as a result.

It's always easy to find another deserving case for more money.

I bet most people if you asked them would say we should spend more on education and I bet most don't know the schools budget doubled under Labour. Did our children double their abilities? No. In fact we've gone down in international league tables.

Throwing additional money at something isn't the answer as shown by the cack handed way IDS and Osborne together have messed up welfare for genuinely disabled people in this country.

Good to see you've got such good hard-working values instilled in you penners.

If you were to guess though, do you think you spend more or less time on here every day posting than the average fb mummy does on facebook?

Debs

When you survey the many examples we have from history of the socialist dream made reality, does it not suggest to you that you are barking up the wrong tree? (Or indeed just barking).

How Venzuelans cheered when Chavez came to power in 1999 with promises to rein in capitalism, tax the rich and nationalise whole sectors of the economy. They're not laughing much now though as they queue all night outside supermarkets with bare shelves trying to find basic items for their families to survive.

Same story in Cuba under Castro, same story in Vietnam under the VC, same story in Tanzania under Nyerere - in fact wherever you look socialism has had the same impact: businesses shut down, investment falls to a trickle, unemployment rockets, the economy collapses and the mass of the population goes from being a bit low paid to being destitute.

By contrast the market economy has a fabulous track record. It's a prosperity engine, probably the greatest invention mankind has ever produced. It has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty.

It isn't perfect. As Ayn Rand pointed out so brilliantly,it's fragile and if you let megacorporations loose they will stitch up the market against new entrants. It can always be made to work better, more effectively.

Yet you still bang on about the state as the answer to all problems. Not enough houses? The state can build more. Education standards falling? Give teachers a pay rise. NHS crisis? Spend more on the NHS.

It's always spend, spend, spend - and never earn.

You are in complete denial about the facts, the history, the mountain of empirical evidence that the way to improve the living standards of the poor is to have more 'market' and less 'government'.

You and your fellow Lefties destroy lives, especially of those at the bottom. Are you not, even in the odd reflective moment, ashamed of yourself?

I'd rather a few more hospitals were built in the South East before loads more houses. Especially as our borough has seen something like a 20% increase in population over the last 20 years while having the only A&E department closed.

haha. you're unreal. maybe these woman should be picking their partners more carefully or, dare I say, not having kids they cant afford? but they dont have to worry as us taxpayers will pick up the tab for their lifestyles.

i could send you plenty of proof of the cases im currently dealing with, but of course this would break dpa. but if you're on fb have a look at these buy and sell sites, and click on the profiles of some of the people selling and buying stuff. then look at their pics of the absolute POVERTY they are living in.

i am generalising ref the buy and sell sites, however i tend to find this is where all the full time mummies congregate during the day.

its indicative to blame everyone for everything nowadays. luckily i was brought up with hardworking parents, who funnily enough both managed to work full time and have kids....

Darlo Debs 11:47 Tue Mar 22
Re: Duncan Smith quits government over disabled benefit cuts
Well I am hoping for some kind of credible evidence to show that this is some major problem draining us of all our resources as you seem to believe it is. All I am seeing so far is anecdotal evidence.

Social policy cant be designed on that basis, and benefit policy certainly shouldn't be...though I suspect it is done with your type of thinking in mind.

Wiltell...I am not saying we should borrow it all in one go....where did I ever say that.
You yourself have agreed there is a need. If there is a will to do something there is often a way. Sometimes it just means being imaginative, even doing more with what we already have.
But this government and the last in fact probably most since the sixties have not done enough.
Made worse in London and the south east by the price of land and property being left unused. Its scandalous.

Penners.

What I'm saying is that you sponge from the state and have a go at people who sponge from the state. I thought that was clear.
